Pet Portraits in Sussex: Tala the German Shepherd

October 17, 2013  •  3 Comments

I often auction off pet portraits to help Hounds First Sighthound Rescue with their funding, they are constantly inundated with hounds requiring vet treatments, feeding, blankets and a whole heap of other things which makes fostering & caring for dogs expensive.

This time my auction prize was won by the lovely Amy & Chik'ki who wanted portraits of their beautiful German Shepherd, Tala. I was pre informed that Tala was a little nervous at first due to some unfortunate instances where she had bee attacked. Knowing how to how to approach dogs with different backgrounds is important when doing pet portraits. I pretty much ignored Tala for the first 15 minutes and let her come to me, after that the only difficulty was getting her to stay away from me (as the last image shows!). She really didn't want to sit and stay if I was more than 2 feet away from her!

Despite the rainy weather, I had such a lovely time photographing Tala, such a bright, friendly, sometimes dippy little girl. I'm looking forward to more shoots with her.

Amy and Chik'ki are good friends of mine and they're great people! Tala really is a credit to them and you've done her great justice with these excellent photographs!

Oh this was so wonderful to read, Kerry! It was such a fun day, and by the end I think that Tala was ready to go home with you. ;) That top photo still has such a powerful effect on me. And I love the photos you chose to share here, as they show the many sides of our dippy (perfect word choice, btw! ;)) girl. Can not wait to do it again - bring on February, I say! *smiles* Thanks again, for such a lovely time!! xx
